Summary “Daffodils” class 9
Daffodils is a lyrical poem written by William Wordsworth
who is an American poet. He is also known as a romantic poet. Due to his
love for nature, most of his poems describe nature and its beauty. In this
poem, the poet shares with us an exciting experience of enjoyment at the sight
of beautiful flowers. He states that once he was walking in the countryside. He
suddenly comes across a large number of golden daffodils growing along
the bank of a lake.
“Continuous as stars that
shine and twinkle on the Milky Way”.
The flowers were dancing and moving in the breeze. The sight
delighted the poet so much that he looked at these flowers for a long time. The
poet feels overjoyed in the company of daffodils.
“Beside the lake beneath the tree,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze”.
The sight of pretty yellow daffodils delighted the poet very
much. Whenever he is alone in vacant or pensive mood, the same
sight comes in his mind and makes the poet happy.
“And then
my heart with pleasure fills
And dances with the
daffodils.”
Natural
beauty is the real and permanent source of pleasure for the poet. He feels very
relaxed and his all tensions disappear from his mind, whenever the sight of
daffodils comes to his mind. Nature and its beauty left a lasting impression on
poet’s imagination. The poet feels happy in the company of daffodils and these
flowers have become a permanent source of joy for the poet. As said by
John Keats:
“A thing of beauty is a joy forever”.
